HOW EQUI NAMES WORK

A woman carries her father’s name first, then her given name, then her mother’s name. For example: Ah’din was Krush Ah’din Ah’rane before her marriage to Teal, at which time she took his given name to become Krush Ah’din Teal.

A man carries his mother’s name first, then his given name, then his father’s name. This does not change when he marries. Hence Ardenai was Ah’rane Ardenai Krush. When he rose to become Dragonhorse his name became Ah’krill Ardenai Morning Star. Morning Star being the designate of all the named Dragonhorses.

Ah’ prefaces nearly all women’s names. It is an ancient designate meaning, “lady, woman or female.”
